It's so beautiful outside today that I can't concentrate on anything! The days are so warm and sunny already that this Sunday is expected to pass 90 degrees (Farenheit) for the first time this spring... it sounds like lake weather has finally returned and my sad winter desperation to swim can come to an end for a few months.
Additionally, I just found out that I got into one of my top two graduate schools, Tulane University in New Orleans! Everyone cross your fingers for me; I sincerely wish to attend (I'm pursuing a Master's of Public Health in epidemiology and outbreak control, specifically in regard to HIV/AIDS), but it is a private school whose tuition for this degree will cost me an amazing $80,000 (which isn't too bad along the spectrum of private American institutions). Loans, here I come!
I spent some time a few days ago at Toltec Mounds on the banks of the Arkansas River, a local site where an ancient native group lived for several hundred years before disappearing without a trace. Two of the mounds are religious, several other small ones are filled with pottery shards and other general refuse from daily life.
For all of you kinds individuals who wished my dog well, thank you. She is as recouperated as one could be, wagging her tail in thanks to you all!

Bride of the Scribbler

Taking my cue from the inimitable Moox, here is a portrait of dead poet Richard Brautigan. And, in the spirit of automation:
Robot
Part 2
Robot likes to sleep
through long lazy summer afternoons.
So do his friends
with the sun reflecting
off them like tin cans.
--R. Brautigan, Loading Mercury with a Pitchfork, 1971

The view from Megan's sunroom, downtown Little Rock, sunset
|
|
I couldn't help it: waiting for Megan to arrive before the gallery opening, in full view of the resplendant city interacting with an atmospheric sundown, I snapped away.
It's all about getting the camera to do things it wasn't made to do, sticking one's leg out to trip the programmer's code, jamming a stick into the spokes, spinning it until dizzy, then letting the shutter fly.
